Digital Writing Critiques

A better way to edit writing assignments

Although the journalism industry digitized years ago, journalism instructors often still rely on handwritten copyediting symbols and marginal notes to provide feedback to students when grading students' writing assignments. A digital critique offers an alternative - and, we think, better - way of giving students the guidance they need to become better writers.

Here's a live example of a digital writing critique that you're free to explore. It's the same critique featured in the "how to" videos you'll find here on the site.

We think the information, practice files and videos on this site can help just about any journalism instructor learn about, and begin using, digital writing critiques. We hope other journalism instructors will join us in experimenting with and refining this new approach to helping students learn all they can from the writing exercises they are assigned.
