This course has one overall web-based portfolio that contains the sections listed below. The preparation of the portfolio will demonstrate your computer skill/knowledge, unit planning, lesson planning & using technology to enhance your student's learning . A printed copy of your online portfolio is designed to be presented to potential employers when you apply for your first job.
Based on the currently posted Due Dates Schedule, we cover each portfolio section in class. The instructor will provide instruction on how to do the assignment during the posted times only.
Graduate (SPSE 5220) Students will create a PowerPoint presentation of their Completed Portfolio & post it on your website.
You will be required to use MTSU’s email for this course. To save your webpage(s) to our server (frank) you must be able to access your Webmail account. It has an 8 character password. If you need to change or setup a password go to the website http://www.mtsu.edu/changepw to setup your own password.
Note: I will answer email sent from your personal email account, but if I need to send email to the entire class then I will send those messages to your MTSU email account. You will be held responsible for reading SPSE 3220/5220 messages sent to your MTSU email address
Prioritize Your Time & Penalty for Being Late
One of the main objectives of this course, for prospective teachers, is learning to prioritize your time. The schedule of due dates must be met or there will be a penalty each late as follows: Summer Session - 2 point deduct for each portfolio section posted more than 2 days late, Fall & Spring - 2 point deduct for each portfolio section posted more than 5 days late. Email me at jsanders@mtsu.edu when you have each Portfolio Section posted.
In a recent class, 3 students copied other other’s work & received F's for the course. Cheating will not be tolerated! I keep all of the portfolios & all online submissions are saved on our computer system. You can receive some personal instruction, but you can not use other people's work in any way. The requirement for this online class is that you do your own work!
Cheating is also defined as purporting to do work when you really have not. For example, on the Excel "Grades" assignment, you are required to use the proper formulas for calculations. Just typing in the answers without using the proper formulas is defined as cheating.
Another example of cheating is not doing the actual mail-merge, rather just typing in the names, addresses, grades, etc. I actually download both the "main.doc" & the "grades" files & perform the mail-merge on my own machine. All 3 actual Mail-Merge documents must be posted to your website.
Copying files including Rubrics & then using part of it as your work is cheating. You can view the online examples & use them as guides for your assignment, but cannot copy them.
Copyright infringement is cheating!
You are to create your own documents for all of the Portfolio Sections. Copying anyone else's work is cheating.
Anyone caught cheating shall receive an “F” will and not be allowed to complete this course!
Class Procedures & Portfolio Section Posting (on-Ground)
Each Portfolio Section will be posted to your website on or before the schedules due date. The document must be completed in a professional manner. See Rubric for standards for each Portfolio Section. If the document is unacceptable, the instructor will make suggestions to the student via e-mail. I will use your email link from your webpage to email you – be sure it works. The student may repost each Portfolio Section 1 time to meet the standard for that section. During the semester, the students will complete the Portfolio Sections on their own. Portfolio Sections may be posted in any order after the webpage (Section 2) is posted & functioning properly. Just adhere to the schedule and post a Section on each Due Date. If you have trouble meeting the deadlines, inform the instructor - failure to keep the schedule will result in a reduced grade for each late portfolio section. All Portfolio Sections must be posted & have a minimum of a “1” point in order to pass this course.
The criteria for passing the course are a (1) completed "professional" Online Portfolio and (2) an acceptable Performance Check, if not waived by the instructor. If the student does not meet the standards for both the Portfolio and the Performance Check, he/she will have 2 days after the last class date for this semester to remedy the deficiencies before a grade will be posted for the class. The student must successfully complete both requirements to pass the course. The only grade you will receive will be for the completed Online-Portfolio & an acceptable Performance Check. See Rubric for standards for each Portfolio Section. All Portfolio Sections must be posted & have a minimum of a “1” point in order to pass this course.
Worrying about grades? Just professionally complete the assignments on time, make the suggested revisions, & you will earn a good grade. ☺
