The U.S.-South Africa partnership is an initiative to address public health issues in squatter communities, create an awareness of basic needs and problems in KwaZulu-Natal  imijondolos,  empower residents to develop good living habits, and promote  cross cultural, trans-disciplinary distance learning.

The U.S.-South Africa partnership evolved through a collaborative effort between faculty at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), faculty at the University of Durban-Westville and other research organizations in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.  This initiative was funded by the Association Liaison Office for University Cooperation and Development (ALO), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the White House Development and Democracy Initiative (EDDI).
